But, Microsoft has built-in Apps to open just about any file you want to open or task you want to complete. Also, Windows made it easy for users to open any files by setting default programs for each file type. But, What if you don’t like Windows 10 default apps for any particular file type? You might have your personal preferences when it comes to view or open any file types. For example you don’t want all your videos to open with Film & TV instead VLC player. Or you don’t want websites to open with Microsoft Edge instead Chrome. Well, you can easily change these defaults Apps to your preferred programs or Apps in Windows 10. Here’s how you can change Windows 10 default Apps of your choice.
Change Windows 10 Default Apps
With Windows 10, you can easily and quickly change or switch your default Apps. These could be for your web browser, reading email, viewing photos, playing music or videos and more. Follow the step below to make changes in default Apps of Windows 10.
1: Go to PC Settings. There are two ways you can do that. Click on Windows logo at the bottom left your computer screen then select Settings. Also, you can click on Notification icon at the bottom right and select All Settings.
2: In PC Settings, click on System and then on Default Apps.
3: Here, you can see some of the different applications with pre-selected Windows Apps or customized. You can change the defaults of these programs. Click the current default app to see a pop-up menu which will display all possible apps you can use, or a link to the Windows Store.

Choose Defaults Apps by File Type
If you want to change Windows 10 default apps by file type, you can use this option. When you select choose defaults by file type, you will get a long list of file types (Extension) and Apps to open them. Here, you can select the default App to open a particular file type. You can also select different application for same file of different extension. For example, instead of using one program to open all photo files, you can use different programs to open JPEGs and PNGs separately. Find the file type you want to change the default app for and click on the default apps. In the pop-up menu you can choose the application to be set as default for that file type.
Manage Launch Options by Protocol
You can use this feature to select default applications for listed requests. For example, which app you want to set as default to open calculator or Alarms & Clock of phone etc. Find the protocol you want to change the default app for. Click the current default app, and choose the app you want to use from the pop-up menu. You can go through these protocols, you will find all the options.
Set Defaults By Apps
With this option you can switch to Windows 7 style default apps settings screen. It is the last but most extensive method of managing defaults apps for files types. Find the programs you want to use or make changes and select it. Then click on Set this program as default or Choose defaults for this program. When you select Set this program as default, the application will be set as default for all file types or protocol it’s capable of opening. If you select Choose defaults for this program, you can choose individual file extensions and protocols from the list.
