Pop-ups are considered as one of the most annoying and frustrating aspect of Internet. It could be very difficult and annoying to see pop-up window coming up after almost every other website you visit. But there is a catch, not all pop-ups are bad. There might be some occasions where you want to or need to allow pop-ups.
Why Would You Want To Allow Pop-ups?
There are some websites which uses and allows pop-ups as a legitimate way to deliver content. For Example, bank, airline, software installers and some news site have all been known to make use of pop-up to deliver their content to the user or pass any important information to a user. By default, Google Chrome blocks pop-ups from automatically showing up on your screen. So you need to change settings to allow pop-ups. But in case if you only want to allow a particular pop-up you want to view, you can do that also. When you open any website and if Google Chrome has blocked the pop up you will see an alert at the end of address bar, top right. Click on the alert and choose ‘Always allow pop-ups form [site name]’ or ‘Allow only once’ depending on your need and then refresh the page.
How To Permanently Enable Pop-ups From All Website?
Before we take you through the process to allow all pop-ups, let me warn you, that if you allow it for all sites then you will get a lot of advertisement pop-ups when you are browsing some games or coupons website, also your machine will be susceptible to viruses or adwares. Some of these pop-ups could be very difficult to close. Follow the steps below to allow pop-ups.
1) Open Google Chrome. Click on the Chrome menu icon (three small horizontal lines or three dots one above other) in the upper-right corner of Google Chrome, and then click on ‘Settings’ or enter ‘chrome://settings’ in address bar.
2) In ‘Settings’ page, scroll down and click ‘Show Advanced Settings’ link.
3) Find ‘Privacy’ section. Under Privacy, Click on ‘Content settings’
4) Scroll down till you see ‘Pop-ups’ option, select ‘Allow all sites to show pop-ups’ and click Finished.
Once ‘Allow all sites to show pop-ups’ is enabled, that will allow pop-ups from all the websites you visit, if that websites has pop-up advertisement or pop-up content delivery system.
If you want only particular website to allow pop-ups and want Google Chrome to remember your preferences, then you can do that as well. In step 4 make sure ‘Do not allow any site to show pop-ups’ is enabled and then click on the button ‘Manage exceptions’. Using this feature is very simple. Just add the URLs of the website you want to permanently allow the pop-ups, also make sure the behaviour is set to ‘Allow‘ and then click ‘Finished’.
The above process can also be done in reverse. For example, if you want all sites to allow pop-ups, you can use the manage exceptions feature to block individual sites that you don’t want to allow pop-ups. Just ensure the behaviour is set to ‘Block’ rather than allow.
